That day was one of those last special hot days of the summer season and we couldn't have spent it any better than when we did that trip with you. I still have that awesome image in my head of the eagles in the wind at Massacre Island, touring Fort St Charles, the fishing (with the best tips), the amazing fish fry,etc. We've been telling everyone and they're all impressed - and jealous. I have to tell you Duncan, it was one of our best days of the summer and a fantastic memory maker. We covered so much but it never seemed rushed - just fun and relaxed. When I first contacted Duncan with the unusual request of taking my mother (now 86) out on Lake of the Woods to search for the island my mother's family had owned from 1931 to 1957, armed with only old photos and my mom's memories, he was eager to take up the challenge. Duncan met the six of us, my mother Joyce, brother Gary & wife Roxanne, from Calgary, brother Scott, and Cathy & I from Lac du Bonnet at the Blue Heron dock on time and ready to go. He immediately put us all at ease with his casual style, warm smiles, and laughter. I think it may have been at this point Duncan let us know there were over 14,000 islands on the lake. I wondered if we were looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. Out on the lake, Duncan talked back and forth with my mom to plan out his route to the most likely area. Duncan knows the lake. To make a long story short...Duncan and Mom found the island. We had an amazing visit with the current owners, later a great lunch at Smith Camp, and a wonderful few hours out on the beautiful lake. I highly recommend Duncan's Blue Heron Lake Tours for any Lake of the Woods outing.

I had the pleasure of spending a few hours with Duncan this past July. What a day! Unfortunately, the circumstances of the day weren't what I originally planned. (lost a bet over the Philly Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks, Stanley Cup 2010) Mayor Sam Katz (Winnipeg) and I both enjoyed the day of relaxing fishing, several nice ones caught, and a fantastic shore lunch.
