Calm Before the Storm
As I sit at my computer on May 13th, a few flurries fly by the window. Although we have had a fair share of "cracker" days, we have also had some cool damp days, typical May weather, I suppose. I have recently been hired by Stats Canada for the 2011 Census. What a neat job! I have been able to visit well over 200 cabins (camps, cottages) on the lake in the Kenora and Clearwater Bay areas. Of the several hundred census' we've delivered, we have only seen a handful of people. The ice went out around Kenora on May 5th. Apparently there was still a little on the 6th or 7th down by Oliver Island and to the south. Surprisingly, Whitefish Bay (Sioux Narrows) was out before some of the more turbid waters near Kenora. Odd. I will continue to work doing the census this month, and then get right into fishing and tours towards the latter part of May and into June. I look forward to another great busy season at the wheel of my Lund, visiting, exploring, fishing, and relaxing on beautiful Lake of the Woods.
